Key West, Florida -- Athletes can register now for the inaugural Key West Triathlon, with events set for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4-5, 2010. Presented by Key West’s Stay Fit Studio, the racing challenge is to include swimming in Gulf of Mexico waters off Key West, biking along a portion of the Keys’ scenic Overseas Highway and running beside the Atlantic Ocean.
The event is to test athletes’ endurance in Olympic distance and shorter sprint distance triathlons and team relay triathlons. In addition, a military triathlon competition is to take place and military discounts are available.
The weekend schedule begins with registration, a fitness expo and dinner under the stars set for Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Marriott Key West Beachside Hotel, 3841 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Participants can pick up their race packets Saturday before competing the following day.
Sunday’s sporting action is to begin at 7:30 a.m., with wave starts planned at pre-set intervals. The fitness expo continues throughout the day, and events are to conclude with a post-race awards ceremony.
All participants can expect medals and awards. Trophies await the top male and female finishers in age categories ranging from youngsters 10-14 to seniors over 80.
The Key West Triathlon is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
