Lake Wales, Florida -- Tickets are on sale for the 20th annual Concert Under the Stars with the Imperial Symphony Orchestra (ISO) at Bok Tower Gardens on May 1 at 7:30 p.m. Mustang Sally and The Hamjos will perform old-time and traditional Appalachian music during the pre-show beginning at 5:30 p.m. Also new this year, concert tickets include general Gardens’ admission so guests may enter anytime during the day for picnics. A favorite Central Florida outdoor gathering, the event draws thousands of visitors who enjoy a picnic and pops musical evening with family and friends as the sun sets over Iron Mountain. In addition to Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, “From the New World,” the ISO will perform a variety of musical genres which will reflect this year’s theme, “Exploring the New World.” Selections include “An American in Paris Suite,” “Stephen Foster Medley,” “Fantasia on Early American Hymns” and “American Folk Song Set.” George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” will feature pianist Linda Charlton. The 60-bell Singing Tower carillon will be performed by carillonneur William De Turk.
The popular picnic contest will award prizes for Most Elegant, Most Original and Best Overall. Judging will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m. and winners will be announced during intermission. Visitors can enter a drawing for a private tour for six of the Singing Tower, a private dinner for eight at Pinewood Estate or a $100 gift certificate from the Tower & Garden Gift Shop. Tickets will be available at the Information Tent near the concert seating area.
Pre-ordered meals are available from the Blue Palmetto Café for $8.95 and $10.95 plus tax and can be picked up the day of the concert by 7:15 p.m. in the Café which will close at 7:30 p.m. Call 863- 676-1355 for advance meal orders. Chicken and yellow rice, hot dogs, snacks and beverages will be available for sale at the Hilltop Café concession located near the concert site as well as beer and wine. The Gift Shop will remain open until after the concert.
Tickets are $20 for the general public and $15 for members. Day of concert ticket prices are $25 for the general public and members. Children under 5 are admitted free. Group discounts are available. Tickets may be purchased at the Gardens (863-734-1222), the ISO office (863-688-3743), CenterState branch locations or Chambers of Commerce in Bartow, Haines City, Lake Wales, Lakeland and Winter Haven.
