Florida Travel News

Miami, Florida -- Keeping in line with its commitment to entertain as well as educate, Miami Metrozoo presents The World of Giant Insects from January 23 – August 1, 2010.  This traveling exhibit, which will be located at the zoo’s Dr. Wilde’s World, will provide eye-opening insight into the anatomy and behavior of insects we encounter regularly.  These animated robotic insects, enlarged 40 to 600 times their actual size, will afford visitors a new up-close perspective on these important creatures.

The exhibit will include a praying mantis (60 times its size), stick insect (120 times its size), beetles (40 times its size), caterpillar (30 times its size), and a locust (70 times its size).  Interactive displays with mosquitoes, honeybee, and dragonfly enlarged 600, 200 and 80 times their size respectively will further thrill and engage adults and children alike.  In addition, laboratory, “backyard jungle” components and signage will enable everyone to learn in more detail about these fascinating creatures.

The exhibit, produced by Kokoro Dinosaurs, has traveled extensively and entertained numerous crowds at museums, zoos and aquariums throughout the United States.

The World of Giant Insects exhibit will be open every day from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is included with zoo admission.

Miami Metrozoo, rated one of the top ten Zoos in the U.S. by Tripadvisor.com in 2008, houses more than 2,000 animals in a cageless setting that approximates the animals’ natural habitats and provides visitors the feel of a safari. Large open air exhibits, a children’s zoo, tram rides, family cycles, a monorail and interactive exhibits make Miami Metrozoo, also named one of America’s Best Zoos and the number one Zoo for Pachyderms in 2008 by The Intrepid Traveler, a unique experience for visitors of all ages. Miami Metrozoo is located at 12400 SW 152 street; Miami, FL 33177. General Zoo Admission is: $15.95 per Adult and $11.95 per Child (3-12), plus tax.  Hours are 9:30 am – 5:30 pm; ticket booths close at 4 pm.  For more information, please visit www.miamimetrozoo.comor call (305) 251-0400.

Miami Metrozoo -- a great zoo!
I love the Metrozoo! It definitely is one of the very best zoos in the USA. I am anxious to come visit this zoo again next month, and especially to see the highly-rated Amazon & Beyond exhibit.
