Fort Lauderdale, Florida -- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) announces a projected increase in September outbound traffic with 3.6 percent growth year over year, ranking it third amongst the United States' top 30 airports in terms of available seats, behind Salt Lake City and Honolulu. The FLL airport's load factor is remaining steady at approximately 80 percent.
Factors contributing to FLL's positive outlook include itinerary expansion by Spirit Airlines, FLL's leading carrier, which recently introduced service to Santiago, Dominican Republic and will begin serving Armenia, Colombia in August, complimented by new Aires Airlines service into Bogotá the same month. JetBlue Airways, which moved to FLL's Terminal 3 in June to provide easier connections to the carrier's international passengers, has added new service to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Cancun, Mexico. Finally, AirTran Airways has launched new service to Allentown, PA and will be bringing Harrisburg, PA and Akron, OH online in November.
"We are excited to see the projected growth for September, as that demonstrates the increasing popularity of our airport amongst the airlines," said Nicki E. Grossman, president of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. "From the boarding gate to the beach in no time, visitors to Greater Fort Lauderdale find our airport to be one of the most convenient in the country with amenities that save passengers time and make the traveling experience more enjoyable."
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport welcomes over 650 daily commercial flights, with non-stop service from over 55 U.S. destinations.
