Tampa, Florida -- At the Second Annual Dalí Look-Alike Contest on May 8 and May 9, 2009, participants will get another chance to show off their Dalí uniform by competing in video and live performance events. To create a signature Tampa Bay event with regional and local appeal, the Dalí Museum and the Ybor City Chamber have collaborated to celebrate the world’s most famous and controversial artist at a landmark destination: Ybor City.
This year, the two-day event opens with an art party and screening of video entries on May 8 at Gallery Live in Ybor City. The museum is now seeking digital entries from across the globe in video and live performance categories. The party will also showcase surrealist-inspired 3D artwork that will be for sale. The museum is currently seeking sculpture proposals for this party, accepting applications for both new and existing works, ready-made constructions, 3D assemblages and mannequins – all with a touch of Dalí.
Winning videos will be shown on Saturday, May 9, at the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg. Live competitors in costume will have a chance to strut their stuff at a big bash celebrating Dalí’s birthday and creative spirit. In true surrealist fashion, this competition is open to both men and women who best epitomize and celebrate the Spanish surrealist’s singular spirit and unique character. Like the master’s art itself, this is open to broad interpretation. First-place and runner-up prizes will be awarded for the top video and in-person contestants.
